Jeanette Berniece Allison, age 94, passed away, Thursday, April 1, 2010, at her home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at First Congregational Church in Marshalltown, with Pastor Barry Holmes officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 6, at Pursel Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorial contributions to honor Jeanette may be directed to: First Congregational Church, MCC Scholarship Fund in the name of Tricia McKenzie Loney, House of Compassion, and Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in memory of Dr. and Mrs. Archie Allison.

Jeanette was born March 1, 1916, in Zearing, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Anthony and Nellie Irene (Jones) Ricketts. She was raised in Zearing, graduating from the Zearing High School in 1932, and the Cosmetology College in Waterloo in 1933. On July 11, 1939, Jeanette was united in marriage to Dr. Archibald Fredrick Allison, in Glendale, California. Arch died September, 8, 1990. On October 31, 1994, she married James Sherman Allison in Marshalltown. Sherm died December 29, 1997.

Jeanette cherished her life as a homemaker and involvement in her husband and children's lives and activities. "Our mother was the absolute perfect example of what a mother should and could be. She was always there with a word of encouragement when we were down, advice when we needed it, whether we thought we did or not. She was positive she had the best kids in the world, regardless of the trials we put her through. She was proud of our spouses and, even though she always took our side, she supported her in-law children with all the love and faith she had in her biological children. She was a very positive, beautiful and most of all spiritual person. She loved her friends and never said an unkind thing about any of her acquaintances. She showed us how life should be lived and cherished, and her example will live within all of us until we see her again. She was a beautiful woman and we will miss her terribly but we realize she is with God and back in the arms of our Dad which is where she belongs."

Jeanette owned and operated Jeanette's Beauty Nook in State Center. She was the office manager for her husband's veterinary practice, and later she found much joy in working in cosmetics at Younkers until her retirement. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially the family tradition of vacationing at Leech Lake in Minnesota. She also enjoyed education, service clubs, playing bridge, traveling, reading, following current events, graphoanalysis, and was actively involved in financial markets. She valued the spiritual interest of Unity. Jeanette was a 70 year member of P.E.O., and a member of First Congregational Church, Elmwood Country Club, 20th Century, SNAP, Early American Glass Club, Starpha, Cum Double, Amity, Assistance League, and a member of her beloved bridge clubs.

Jeanette will be dearly missed by her children, Archibald Sherman (Julie) Allison, Roberta Jean (John) Olson, James Bruce (LaDonna) Allison, all of Marshalltown, Rebecca Sue (Greg) Lievens of Aplington; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, brother, Wayne Ricketts of Champaign, IL, sisters, Ilene Womeldorf of Stewartville, MN, and Maxine Britten of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Archibald Fredrick Allison, second husband, James Sherman Allison, granddaughter, Tricia McKenzie Loney, brothers, Carroll, Robert, Max, and Don Ricketts; and sister, Mary Kay Thoreson.
