James Haywood Earley Sr., 94, of the 700 block of Oak Grove Road, died Aug. 29, 1998.
He was born in Ahoskie, N.C., and was the widower of Bessie Mae Adkins Earley. He was a member of Hickory Chapel Baptist Church, Ahoskie.
He is survived by five daughters, Nancy Carter, Lorene Odom, June Twine and Dianne Miller, all of Chesapeake, and Peggy Amato of Virginia Beach; four sons, James H. Earley Jr. and Fred Earley, both of Virginia Beach, Douglas Earley of Yorktown, and Jerry Earley of Chesapeake; three sisters, Alene Neville of Enfield, N.C., Emma Parker of Woodland, N.C. and Jeanette Smith of Thomasville, Ga.; two brothers, Arthur Earley of Singer Island, Fla., and Lawrence Earley of Ahoskie, N.C.; 25 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.. Monday at Rosewood Memorial Park by Dr. Dennis Culbreth. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, Kempsville Road, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday.
