ALENE EARLEY NEVILLE, 96, died on Friday, January 2, 2004, at Brekenridge Retirement Center, in Rocky Mount, NC.

Mrs. Neville, a native of rural Hertford County, was born on June 27, 1907, where she grew up near Ahoskie, NC. She later lived in Tarboro, NC, prior to her fifty plus years of residence in Enfield. For the last two years, Mrs. Neville has resided at Brekenridge Retirement Center in Rocky Mount, NC. She was married to Nicholson Graham Neville, who preceded her in death on January 25, 2002. Mrs. Neville was the daughter of the late James Lawrence Earley and Nancy Catherine Dilday Earley of Ahoskie. She was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University and Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College. Prior to retirement, she served as an educator in the Tarboro City School System and later in the Halifax County School System at Enfield Graded School. Mrs. Neville was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society and a former member of the Tuesday Afternoon Study Club. She was also a faithful and devoted member of the Enfield Baptist Church, where she taught in the Children's Sunday School Department and served as a G.A. Leader, Circle Leader and Deaconess.

Mrs. Neville had one daughter from a former marriage, Lorene Thomas Johnson, who also preceded her in death. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Nicholson Graham Neville, Jr. and Cheryl E. Neville, both of Henderson, NC; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Johnson Knell, of Evans, Georgia; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Emma Earley Parker, of Woodland, NC; one brother, Arthur E. Earley, of Westfield, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield. The Reverend Dallas Prestwood will officiate the service. The family will meet friends at the Enfield Baptist Church, immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Enfield Baptist Church at 200 West Burnette Avenue, Enfield, NC, 27823, in memory of Alene Earley Neville.
