Carrie Esediah Fost was born Nov. 17, 1879 near Peabody, Kansas, to Francis T. and Elmira Fisher Fost. She attended Grandview country school southwest of Peabody as well as Peabody Elementary School where she graduated from the eighth grade.

Her parents were pioneers in the Peabody area, arriving in 1871. Her father was a Civil War veteran. On July 3, 1900 Carrie married Hiram Odle (H.O., Odie) Skinner at Peabody. They lived on a number of farms around Peabody for the next fifty years.

Carrie endured a lot of loss in her lifetime. Her biological family suffered from consumption. She had a sister, Hattie, who died at age 28 and a brother, Benjamin, who was 21 when he died. Her mother may also have had the illness, dying at age 60. Carrie also endured the loss of another sister, Lucretia, at age 44, and two nieces, Elisa, who was 29, and Isabelle, who was 21. Her brother Andy died at age 54.

As a child and young woman, Carrie was active in the Baptist Church before becoming a longtime member of the Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Up and Doing club that met northeast of Peabody.

Carrie died Dec. 12, 1950 at age 71, as the result of complications following surgery. She survived the last remaining member of her biological family, her brother Job, by about two weeks.
