1.) Mrs. B. M. Anderson
Mary Audentia Smith Anderson, 91, daughter of Joseph Smith III, first president of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, died Sunday at Resthaven nursing home Independence, Mo.

She was the granddaughter of Joseph Smith II, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who was killed by mob action in 1844. Joseph Smith III, who was 11 at the time of his father's death, took over leadership of the Reorganized Church in 1860. Mrs Anderson was the sister of W. Wallace Smith, present president of the RLDS church.

Mary Audentia Smith was born March 23, 1872, in Plano, Ill., the daughter of Joseph and Bertha Smith. In 1881, she moved with her family to Lamoni, then the new headquarters of the RLDS church. She took music lessons here and at the age of 11 was playing the organ for church services.

After public school graduation, she attended Western Normal College, Shenandoah, Iowa, where she studied piano, voice, harmony, and music composition.

On Feb. 3, 1891, she was married to Benjamin M. Anderson, superintendent of the mechanical department at the Herald Publishing House in Lamoni.

Mrs. Anderson helped write Sunday school quarterlies, wrote women's articles for church publications, taught music lessons in her home in addition to raising the Andersons' seven children.

Mrs. Anderson was one of the first music teachers at Graceland college in Lamoni. In 1908, after the church headquarters were moved, the Andersons moved to Independence. They lived directly across the street from her father who died in 1914.

Mr. Anderson's business required a move to Omaha, Neb., in 1915. Mrs. Anderson's brother, as Frederick M. Smith, became president of the church that year. Mrs. Anderson served in both the church school and women's departments at Omaha. Her husband was the Omaha branch pastor and district president.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Colonists, the Colonial Dames, the Mayflower Society, the Daughters of the Founders, Patriots of America, and the Daughters of 1812.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Hulmes Clark, Independence; Mrs. Doris Frederick, Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. R Rogene Prucha, Lincoln. Neb.; a son, Duane S. Anderson, Cincinnati; two other brothers, Richard Clark Smith and Reginald Smith, both of Independence; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 8 at the RLDS Stone church in Independence; burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Lamoni.
