Thomas came to Venango County as a surveyor with Thomas McKee and married his sister Martha. They had the following children: John Beard (1801-1864) married to Susanna McKee (1807-1895) and they lived in Smicksburg, Indiana County, Pa.; Susan Beard (1801-1883) married to John Van Dyke, Jr. (1798-1865); Mary Beard (1799-1888); James Beard (1807-1865) married to Mary Kilpatrick (1810-1890); Elizabeth Beard (1809-1901) married to John Coulter (1797-1849); Thomas Beard, Jr. (1811-1902) married to Mary McKinley (1814-1889) who lived in Washington County, Iowa; William Beard (1813-1875) married to Sara Margaret Perry (1820-1899) who lived in Rockport, Wood County, WV; Hugh Baird (1815-1903) married to Margaret Jones (1809-1895); and Matilda Baird (1819-1909) married to Dr. Gibson Vincent (1809-1884).
