JULIUS BETTERS SUCCUMBS HERE. Pioneer Resident of City Dies Sunday Noon; Rites Wednesday
Julius E. Betters, 86, Marinette pioneer, died Sunday noon at M. & M. hospital. He had been ill a week, death resulting from infirmities incident to age. A survivor of the Peshtigo fire, he resided in this city for 70 years. For the last three years he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Levy Cahee, 1721 Lewis street. He was employed as a saw filer for many years here during the early lumbering days for the Ludington company. He was born July 7, 1853 in New York. Survivors are three sons, William of Porthmouth, Va., and Charles and George of Marinette, four daughters, Mrs. Lillian D'Armour of Iron Mountain; Mrs. Warren Russel of Port Ludlow, Wash., and Mrs. William Weber and Mrs. Cahee of this city, 31 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. The body was taken to McLain funeral home where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 8:30 and at 9 o'clock at St. Joseph's church. The Rev. Omer Champagne will officiate at the requiem mass. The casket will be placed in Forest Home cemetery mausoleum. The deceased was a charter member of Catholic Knights of Wisconsin.
