Verna L. Slack, 85, of East Jordan, formerly of Echo Township, died Tues., April 24, 2001, at the Charlevoix Area Hospital.
Verna was born Dec. 21, 1915, in Echo Township, the daughter of Clarence and Grace (McMillan) Murray.
She had resided in East Jordan since 1996 previously living in Echo Township and Westland. She was a member of the Ellsworth Christian Reformed Church.
On Sept. 20, 1938, in Echo Township, she married Fredrick V. Slack who preceded her in death in 1987. Also preceding her in death were brothers Russell, Cecil, Lloyd, Stanley, Dale, Max, Zell, and Rex Murray and sister Joyce Lamreaux.
Surviving are children Kenneth L. (Edith) Slack of Flat Rock, Carl G. (Karen) Slack of Alden, Shirley M. (Gordon) Kooistra of Waxhaw, N. C.; brother Leo (Margaret) Murray of Echo Township; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Fri., April 27 at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes; Rev. David J. Weemhoff officiated. Interment was in Sunset Hill Cemetery in East Jordan.
