A Tribute to my Aunt

On Tuesday, January twenty-first, Miss Laila Waltz aged eighty-five years passed away as quietly as she had lived. She was the third daughter of a family of six daughters and one son, born in Waldoboro to the late Lendon and Maria Dresser Waltz. Since the age of eighteen she had been totally blind, which while it was a handicap, this affliction did not prevent her from leading a useful and cheerful life until at the age of seventy she suffered a fractured hip; another one at the age of eighty. While she know this could have been most discouraging to most at this age, her deep and abiding faith in God gave her the strength to overcome these unfortunate experiences as well as much sadness during her lifetime. This sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many, left no earthly possessions of value, due partly to her unselfishness, but to us who were close to her, she left love, respect and beautiful memories of wisdom and understanding. Her moto, "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you" is a lesson to all.
