Joseph Samp was born in Robbakau, West Prussia (now Robakowo) and was baptized at Lusin (Luzino) Catholic parish. He was the identical twin brother of John Samp. Joseph came to the U.S. with his parents and most of his siblings in 1881. He married Susanna Rumps at St. Josaphat Church in 1889.
