Johann (John) Anton Samp was born in Robbakau, West Prussia (now Robakowo) and was baptized at Lusin (Luzino) Catholic parish. He was the identical twin brother of Joseph Samp. John seems to have been the first in his family to come to the U.S., possibly arriving in the late 1870's. He married Augusta Felstau (Felstouf) at St. Michael Catholic Church in Chicago (on Cleveland Ave.) in 1881. They had at least nine children including: Marie, John, Agnes, Walter, Alma, and Mildred. John and Anna lived in Chicago until they moved to Indiana sometime in the 1920's.
