"Obituary - Joseph L Sloan, an old resident of Oil Creek township, died Thursday morning at the family residence, about three miles north of this city, on the Spring Creek road. Deceased had always lived a single life, and was honest, energetic and much respected by his neighbors. About five years ago he was stricken with paralysis, rendering him almost helpless, from which condition he never rallied. In this enfeebled state he was taken with the grip, from which he suffered for the past three months, when death came to his relief. His age was about 59 years. Four brothers, George W, Stephen S, P K and Jas L Sloan, with four sisters, Mrs Purtill and three maiden sisters, Mary, Catherine and Susanna, survive the deceased. The funeral services will be held at the home Saturday at 10 am. Interment in the Sloan cemetery."
