They were Cumberland Presbyterians and were deeply religious. In 1819 Robert and his father-in-law, John Scott, organized the first Presbyterian congregation in Pike County. They named the church Antioch and the organization was composed of five families: Fullertons, Pharrs, Boyds, John Scott and wife and Joseph Scott and wife. The church meetings were held in the joint home of John Scott and Robert Fullerton. The first Presbytery west of the Mississippi River, was held at Scott's Spring in May, 1820.
The church was moved from Scott's Spring to present location in 1823. The original church house was built of logs. The present building was erected in 1867.
