She was born in Brunswick County, NC on January 26, 1923, the daughter of the late Lorenzo L. and Lillie West Williams. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Janet Squires, Pearl Fisher, and Hazel Williams; and one brother, Paul L. Williams.
Mrs. King was a member of the Riegelwood Baptist Church, and was affectionately known to her family and friends as "Miss America".
Surviving is her husband of 69 years, Rev. Erby King, Jr.; three daughters, Connie Faye Dillon and husband Delano of Georgia, Mary Ann Goodale and husband James of Georgia, and Deborah Kay Bossman and husband Mark of Texas; two grandchildren, Jacqueline Bossman and Phillip Bossman; five sisters, Lena Medlin of Leland, NC, Clara Mae Turner of Rock Hill, SC, Betty Smith of Morganton, NC, Yvonne Hamilton of Leland, NC, and Carolyln Fay Johnson of Leland, NC; and her special canine friend, Tyler.
The family will receive friends at the Riegelwood Baptist Church, 103 Hwy 87, Riegelwood, NC 28456 from 1 PM until time of the service on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Riegelwood Baptist Church by Rev. Charles M. Hester. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Harold Stephens, Phillip Conner, John Cook, Frank Hoke, and Bill Brew. Active pallbearers will be: Donald Shaw, David Parks, Charles Squires, Ken Medlin, Billy McPherson, and Jimmy Medlin.
