He was born April 2, 1923 in Wilmington, N. C. the son of the late Erby King, Sr. and Minnie B. King. He was preceded in death by his wife Lillie W. King of 69 years.
Surviving are his three daughters, Constance Dillon, Mary Ann Goodale, and Debra Bossman; two grandchildren, Jackie and Phillip Bossman; a sister, Margaret Vinson; a niece, Louise McColl; a nephew, Bernard King Flynn; three sisters-in-law, Betty Smith, Yvonne Hamilton, and Carolyn Johnson; and very special extended family members, John, Rose, and Marc Cook.
Erby was a minister for 55 years serving several churches. The last being Sylvester Baptist Church in Sylvester, West Virginia before moving back to North Carolina and serving interim pastor for several churches, Elah Baptist Church, being the last interim and the church where he was a member.
Erby served in the US Navy during World War II and ate Christmas dinner in Tokyo Bay, Japan in 1945. He was discharged in 1946. He was an avid golfer and played golf up until his death.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Kenneth W. Long, Sr. officiating.
