CHESTERTON - James O. Branham, 79, Chesterton, died Wednesday (Nov. 1, 2000) at Clare Bridge Cottage Nursing Home, Valparaiso.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Chesterton. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Mr. Branham was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Ashland, Ky., to Lincoln O. and Florence Osborn Branham. On May 29, 1946, in Liberty Township, Ind., he married Catherine Bockelmann. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, James H. (Judy) Branham, Chesterton, Robert (Peggy) Branham, Merrillville, and William (Mary) Branham, Chesterton; three sisters, Lucille (Jim) Miller, South Shore, Ky., Mary (Denver) Munn, South Shore, and Stella (Virgil) Bailey, Ashland, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A brother, Mason Branham, preceded him in death.

Mr. Branham was the head custodian at Liberty Elementary School and retired from the Duneland School Corporation. He was also a farmer and construction worker, had worked for NIPSCO, and was self-employed. He served in the Fifth Army Air Force as a radio operator during World War II, was a past commander of American Legion Post 503, was an advisory board member of Liberty Township, was a 20-year precinct committeeman and 4-H leader.
