Mary A. Allen, daughter of Earl F. and Mary I. (Riley) Pauley was born April 15, 1936 in Smithland, Iowa. She entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 74.

Mary was raised and educated in Smithland and surrounding communities. She began attending country school then went to Mapleton schools.

Mary was united in marriage to Joseph T. (Bud) Allen in Onawa in May of 1955. To this union five children were born. The family made their home in different communities in Monona County. Mary worked as a cook at several places including Onawa Café (Sadie's Place), E & R Café, Metcalf Truck Stop, Rude's and Whiting Marina. She also worked as a janitor for Mapleton School and later at I.B.P. in Dakota City, Nebraska. Mary retired in 1994.

Mary enjoyed crosswords, camping, fishing, cards, dice, raising and spending time with her kids and family.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Joseph T. (Bud) Allen; children: Bud W. Allen and wife Ranae, Darrell L. Allen and wife Patty, David L. Allen and wife Tina and Jack L. Allen and wife Sharon; three foster children: Mike McCall, Wendy Lee and husband Jerry and Shawn Lee; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; two sisters: Elaine Hopkins and husband Harold and Ruth Hopkins; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; one brother and one twin brother; and one son, Miron A. Allen.
