Joseph T. "Bud" Allen, 84, of Mapleton, Iowa died Monday, January 16, 2017 at his home in Mapleton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Catie Newman officiating. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Army, the David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa, Iowa, and the Monona County VFW Post #2694.
Joseph "Bud" was born November 1, 1932 near Blencoe, Iowa, the son of Hiram N. and Lena (Holton) Allen. He attended school in the area and helped his family operate their sawmill and fish camp. He served in the United States Army.
Bud and Mary A. (Pauley) Allen were united in marriage in May 1955 in Onawa, Iowa. To this union five children were born. The family made their home in various communities around Monona County. Bud worked as a truck driver and sawmill operator.
He enjoyed fishing, playing music, and socializing with family and friends.
Survivors include four sons, Bud W. (Ranae) Allen of Merrill, IA, Darrell L. Allen of Mapleton, IA, David L. (Tina) Allen of Danbury, IA, and Jack L. (Sharon) Allen of Mapleton, IA; three foster children, Mike McCall of Sioux City, IA, Wendy (Jerry) Hayden of Soldier, IA, and Shawn Lee of Pisgah, IA; twenty-three grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one sister, Amy Pierce of Castle Rock, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary A. Allen on November 30, 2010; son, Miron A. Allen; daughter-in-law, Patricia Allen; two granddaughters, Heather Allen and Janice Hopkins; and several brothers and sisters.
