Tomas Paxton dies;
retired businessman
Tomas A. Paxton Sr., retired president of Soutex Investment Company and Southern Textile Machinery Company, died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah after a long illness.
A requiem mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. The Rev. Harold Diller will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Paxton, 67, of 898 Friedman Lane was a director of Citizens Bank and Trust Company, Western Kentucky Gas Company, Paducah Newspapers Inc., Soutex Investment Company and Southern Textile Machinery Company.
He was a past director of Computer Services Inc., Spindletop Research Company "and P4S Enterprises, Inc.
A long-time supporter of Paducah and western Kentucky, Mr. Paxton served on many advisory committees for serveral governors.
In addition, he was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and a life member of Sigma Chi fraternity.
He attended Purdue University and the University of Texas and was an honor graduate of the Harvard Business School.
Mr. Paxton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Paxton; two sons. W. P. Paxton II of Paducah and T. A. Paxton Jr. of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. James R. Smith of Paducah; three grandchildren, Ms. Denise Ann Paxton, W. P. Paxton III and Ms. Michelle Elizabeth Paxton, all of Paducah.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Perce Paxton, and mother, Flora Dicke Paxton.
The family requests that expression of sympathy take the form of contributions to Lourdes Hospital, St. Mary High School Benefit Fund or the St. Thomas More Church.
Southern Textile Machinery Company will be closed Thursday for the funeral.
