Mrs. Viola Davis Morgan, aged 64, widow of the late R. P. "Perry" Morgan, died Thursday night, at her home in this city. Her death followed an illness of about three months.
She was born and reared in Cookeville, and her entire life was spent here. She was the oldest, also the last surviving of the three daughters of the late Capt. Henry P. Davis, and wife Lydia S. Davis of this city. Her father was a prominent lawyer of the Cookeville Bar, and for many years one of Putnam County's active and widely known citizens.
In her young ladyhood she was married to R. P. Morgan. He was for many years one of the most prominent business men of this city and section of the state. He died about four years ago.
Mrs. Morgan was from her childhood, a devoted and active member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
She is survived by one son, Dawson Morgan, and a granddaughter Bettie Morgan, also three brothers, Will
C. Davis and Newton Davis all of Cookeville, and Roscoe Davis of Harriman. Also by many other relatives in this city and county.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church by the pastor, the Rev. Hugh L. Goodpasture.
Following the services at the church burial took place in the family lot in the Cookeville Cemetery.
