O. M. Davis Dies At Home Here: Burial In Local Cemetery: Unique Character Passes Away, Following Brief Illness – Possesed Unusual Ablilites:
O. M. Davis, better known as "Pinegar" died at his home in this city last Monday, after an illness of short duration. Mr. Davis had been in declining health for some time, but his friends did not comprehend that the end was so near. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. R. Goodpasture, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, of which organization Mr. Davis was a member.
"Pinegar" Davis was a rather unique character. He was possessed of an unusually keen intellect, which, if
properly developed, would have approached brilliancy. He had a natural taste and ear for music, played the piano and violin passively well, and enjoyed musical entertainment. Early in his young manhood he was
educated for ministry in the Cumberland Presbyterian church, but later he gave up the idea of becoming an active church man and allowed his natural talents to deteriorate. He also had poetical inclinations and on
two or three occasions published small pamphlets containing some attention and received favorable
criticisms. He was a son of the late Henry P. Dave. He leaves a wife and several children.
