Rev. J.B. Cherry, 88, a native of Kerens, Texas and resident of Raceland, died at 10:46 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at First Assembly of God in Raceland. Religious services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial at Rogers Cemetery in Bayou Blue.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gloria Rodrigue Cherry; two daughters, Darla Jean Cherry Brown and Deanna Joy Cherry Gorman and husband, Gary Dwayne Gorman; one brother, Hebert Cherry; and four grandchildren, Blair Michael Brown, Samantha Jolie Brown, Drew Anthony Gorman and Dawson Alexander Gorman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George D. Cherry and Cora Mae Hughes Cherry; one son, James Charles Cherry; one daughter, Sharon Ann Cherry; four brothers, Colonel Roy "Buddy" Cherry, Gene Aaron Cherry, Earl Washburn and Cyril Washburn; and three sisters, Margorie Washburn Loffman, Totsy Cherry Johnson and Georgia Lou Cherry Airheart.
He was Pastor of Assembly of God in Raceland for 50 years, a member of Louisiana District for 50 years, also in ministry for 60 years. Rev. J.B. Cherry pastored in Wrecklaw, Texas, Waskom, Texas, Raceland, Bayou Blue, Dulac and was a Youth Pastor at First Assembly of God in Athens, Texas.
