'His mother' was "Jane Welch Harris" who was born in 1819 in SC. Samuel's parents were married in 1838 in Alabama; they moved to Arkansas before 1860 with their 3 children. She is thought to have died before 1900 because she is not listed on the census for 1900 in Cabot, Lonoke Co., Ark. with her husband. She died on 8-2-1898 @ Graham, Young Co., TX. 'Her parents' were "Taylor Gaylon Whitley" (1814 GA--1878 AR) & "Calista Carrol Cole m: Whitley" (1816 TN --1884 AR); they are buried @ Lonoke Co., AR @ Whitley Cemetery.

My Great-grandmother ZORA was adored by all of her children! She lived across a 10-ft.-wide dirt road from her son, Clyde (Bones) Edwards, his wife Eva, their 4 sons, & 5 daughters. She also lived next-door to her daughter, Minnie Branson, her husband Rob, & their 3 sons. So, ZORA had 12 grandchildren always near her.

Mollie Brown & her husband Buck lived @ Selfs & had no children. Lillie Roach & her husband Buck lived @ Wichita Falls with their 6 children. Zora's youngest child, Fronie McVay, & her husband Lee lived in many small communities around the area until finally settling in Paris upon his retirement & had 1 adopted son. Zora's son, Claude Edwards, died in 1916; but he & his wife Mamie had a daughter named Edna who often visited Monkstown & her many relatives there. Edna & William Branson, her 1st. cousin, were life-long pals!

ZORA absolutely enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren! My dad, William H. Branson, was her 1st. grandchild; & he lived just across the yard from her. He would "charge a penny candy each day after school on her account" @ Mr. Barnes's Store. ZORA paid "William's candy bill" with her fresh eggs! Many years later, my mother asked him if he was ashamed of that...he answered, "No, I guess I should be; but Grandma was my best buddy; & she never told me to stop!" He got lots of hugs from his Grandma Edwards...as did all of her lucky grandchildren!
---------------------------------
Grandma Edwards had "the biggest" Dutch Elm Tree beside her house! We used to clasp hands to see how many of us great-grandkids it would take to reach all-the-way around it!

"Monkstown"...this was "The Place" that I went at least twice-a-year with my parents...to see the Branson's & Edwards'! (My mother's aunt & uncle lived just around-the-corner for a long time, Lillie & Madison Fair.) It was always a lot of fun when "everyone" joined in the nightly get-together & talking sessions...the men hung lanterns in the trees; & we sat on milking stools, buckets, apple crates, leaned on a car, or sat on the ground to hear everyone's tall tales! I heard a lot of wonderful stories! And, I remember all of the laughter & love that this family shared! This was "home" after all, & this was what home felt like!
----------------------------------
When my dad was dying in 1988, he saw his Grandma & his Angel standing there by his bedroom door; & he pointed to where they were. I asked, "So, what are they doing here?" He was so elated & happy when he replied, "They look so wonderful! They're coming to take me home!"

ZORA passed away on 4-25-1962 @ Monkstown, TX @ her home after a long battle with senility (which today is termed Alzheimer's) & probable renal failure. She was (& still is) loved & missed by her family!
