Ira Bent was the twelfth of fifteen children of Charles A. and Laura A. Dutton and spent his early life in Clayton Township, Taylor County, Iowa.
He married Eva V. Stoliper around Nov. 1916 in Madison, Nebraska.

She had an adopted daughter named Josephine from a previous marriage and they had no children in this marriage.
He owned and operated an auto repair garage in Nebraska for several years.

They emigrated to Moundridge, Kansas on July 1, 1932 and remained there until their deaths.
