Iver Dee Fleming was the youngest of nine children born to William Simpson Fleming and Sarah Frances Dunnegan Fleming. His parents and eight siblings were all born in Kentucky; in 1892, the family made the move to Texas, where cousins anxiously awaited their arrival.
In December 1896 the family moved to Montague County, TX, where William had purchased a nice farm for a bargain price. Two-and-a-half years later, Iver Dee was born on that farm.
Shortly after Iver's arrival, the house caught fire and burned to the ground, taking the family's possessions with it. They stayed in tents and in the barn while the house was rebuilt.
In 1900 the Kiowa Strip in Indian Territory opened for settlement. Iver's father drew a claim near Hobart. After building a house on his new land and readying the property for its new inhabitants, he sent for his wife and children to join him there. Iver's brothers and sisters were much older than and were soon married and moving out of the ranch home they shared with their parents. In 1910, only Iver and sister Dorcas remained at home with William and Sarah. Sarah died the following year, in 1911.
By 1917 Iver was on his own. He had moved to Creek County, where he was living when he registered for the WWI draft. According to the draft information, he was living in Kiefer, OK, and working in Sapulpa, as an electrician, at the age of 18. In 1920, he was still in Creek County, living in the town of Mounds. According to the 1930 Census, Iver had married "Beuhlah" and had one daughter, Deevota; the family was living in Muskogee, OK.
Iver died just two years later, in 1932, at the age of 33. The symbol on his gravemarker indicates he was a member of a Masonic lodge, most likely in Muskogee.
