SHANTZ, Abner January 19, 1920 - February 23, 2012 Passed away after a brief illness on February 23, 2012 at the age of 92 years. Beloved husband of Norma (Lichty) for 68 years. Predeceased by daughter Margaret Alexander (1988). Abner will be missed by his children Janet Walker, Roger (Ana) Shantz, Rodney (Kathryn) Shantz and Karen (John) Detzler; 12 grand- children and three great-grand- children. Survived by son-in-law Carl Alexander. Also predeceased by his son-in-law Floyd Walker (2011). Abner was a longtime employee of J.E. Seagram & Sons in Waterloo. He was one of the founding members of St. Agatha Community Park Board and lived in St. Agatha for over 50 years. Abner enjoyed travelling, boating, fishing, gardening and cutting wood in the bush. Abner's family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, February 25, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. and again on Sunday, February 26, 2012 from 12 noon to 12:45 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 1 p.m. followed by a reception. Interment Shantz Mennonite Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or St. Mary's General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
