Joseph Nelson Ashburn passed away suddenly of a heart attack on January 3, 1947 at his home in Glendale, California. He was born at Bazetta, Ohio September 7, 1869, the eldest son of Dillon P. and Emily A. Ashburn and at the age of 1 year, came with his parents to Gibbon, Nebraska with the Colony.
On June 28, 1899 he was married to Hattie B. McConnaughey who survives him. He leaves 4 children, and 1 sister, 4 grandchildren.

Services were from the Church of the Reconessional in Forrest Lawn Cemetery with burial there.
