David Richard Gourley, 71, passed through the veil on Dec. 23, 1996, of a lingering heart disease.

He was born on June 20, 1925, to David and Dora Louise West Gourley in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He married his eternal companion, Pearl Warner, on June 25, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a high priest in the LDS Church, and enjoyed serving in the Jordan River LDS Temple. He shared his knowledge of the outdoors with many scouts throughout the years.

He had a distinguished thirty-seven year career in education in the Jordan School District where he was a teacher at Jordan High School, as administrator at Hillcrest High School, Midvale and Mount Jordan Junior High Schools. He then moved to the District Office where he was the personnel director. He last served as Assistant Superintendent of the West area. He had a great love for all of his students and colleagues.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman who felt closest to his Heavenly Father when he was in the mountains on his horse or on a lake with a pole. He shared that love with his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy was his family. He was proud of the accomplishments of each one. He took care to spend his most valuable resource on their behalf- his time. The trips, the quiet moments, and times of special counsel will remain as part of his special legacy of wonderful memories for each member of the family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Pearl W. Gourley, West Jordan; Ann G. (Michael) White, Herriman; David L. (Nancy) Gourley, Bountiful; RaNae (Wayne) Palmer, West Jordan; Janene (Jared) Crane, West Jordan; he is also survived by grandchildren, Tricia (Dave) Andersen, Traci (Wade) Peterson, Richard (Rick) White, Michelle White, Janae (Jon) Moss, David Robert Gourley, Daniel Gourley, Scott Gourley, Camille Gourley, Angie Palmer, Lincoln Palmer, Heidi Palmer, Christopher Palmer, Todd Crane, Melissa Crane, Trevor Crane, Kelsey Crane; and six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, George, Ernest, John, Ramona Witney, June Searle, Faun Burnett. Preceded in death by parents, brothers and sisters, Rex, Lee, Gertrude Tranter, Maureen Hatch.
