Roland "Toad" Agee was the son of Sarah Elizabeth Lady and Benjamin Coats Agee. His parents and grandparents emigrated from DeKalb County, MO to Yamhill Co, OR in the early 1850s. Roland's family moved to Douglas County, OR. He had 13 siblings.

He married Emma L Barker on 30 October 1895. They were divorced. He had a clothing store in Roseburg at one time.

He appeared on the census of 1910 at Umpqua, Douglas County, Oregon.
