Benjamin Coats Agee was the son of Isaac and Cordelia Thornton Agee of Yamhill County, OR. His family moved to Yamhill Co, Oregon in 1852 from DeKalb County, MO. His siblings were: William, Mary (Atterbury), Wilson, John, Malissa (died young), Mathew, James, Jackson, Sarah (Coats), Judy (Fristoe), Jasper, Isaac and Charles.

He married Sarah Elizabeth Lady (also of DeKalb Co, MO) in 1863 at Yamhill Co, OR. She was the daughter of William Lady. They had the following children: Oscar, Orvil, Roland, Norman, Miles, Minnie (Cochran), Millie, May (Kurtz), Asher, Rose (Kurtz), Fred (Ford), Daisy, Earl and Elmer.

Benjamin Coats is on the 1880 census at Deer Creek, Douglas Co, OR and the 1990 census at Civil Bend (now Winston), Douglas Co, OR. Benjamin Coats Agee was a well known Sheriff of Douglas County 1837-1920, 1886-1890 and 1896-1898. His brother John and family also lived in Douglas County, at Wilbur. All his other siblings stayed around Yamhill County.
