Grandma was born when there were no birth certificates issued. Instead, the Secretary of State in Missouri issued a certified certificate stating that she was found in the 1910 Federal Census of Dade County, Missouri, Reel f338, Enumeration District 67, page 233A.

Grandma, Grandpa, and their children moved to Klamath Falls, Klamath, Oregon, United States in 1942. She worked at many jobs including a dehydration plant during WWII, Isensee Laundry, & Wongs Chinese Restaurant. She also worked in the potato and onion fields in the Klamath County area. Grandma also worked for Hazel Lewis's family as a housekeeper and babysitter.

Grandma loved to sew on her Singer Treadle Sewing Machine. She made her own clothes and beautiful quilts. She would hand sew the quilt patterns then use the sewing machine to apply backing and covers. She made alot of quilts for her family.

Grandma was a great cook. She was best known for her fried chicken, fried potatoes, and blackberry cobbler. While frying potatoes, she would cook with a butcher knife, talking to family and shaking the knife to make a point.

Grandma and Grandpa Skelton loved to go fishing at Howard Prairie in Jackson County, Oregon. In fact, after Grandma and Grandpa passed away, the family held a reunion/memorial service for both of them in July 2001 at their granddaughters home. After the reunion/service was over, one of their grandsons and great grandson scattered their ashes at their favorite fishing spot at Howard Prairie. Grandma also loved to pick blackberries in the Klamath and Applegate areas for her yummie cobblers.

The family would travel to Spencer Creek in Klamath County for picnics. During that time, she would break a branch from a tree and chase chipmunks. Once in a while, she would catch them and take them home and put them in a cage. Grandma loved kitties too.....of all colors and sizes. Her favorite that I remember her mentioning was Oranges. It was a big orange tom cat.

I remember Grandma would comb her long hair and part it down the middle, then braid each side. The hair that was left in the comb would be used as her hair band, like a rubberband. After the braids were done she would wrap them up and bobby pin them to the top of her head. Us kids would watch her do this every morning. We were so intrigued at how she would use the hair from the comb as her rubberbands, so to speak.
Grandma Skelton loved to watch the Portland, Oregon wrestling on TV. It was funny to watch Grandma get into those wrestling fights. She would actually yell at the TV for her favorite wrestler.....oh the memories!!!

We love and miss you so much Grandma Skelton
