Rufus Allen Reedy was born in Ross county, Ohio, July 24, 1859. He came to Kansas in 1876 with his parents and settled in Chetopa, Kansas. He had lived in this vicinity until about seven years ago when he moved to Ponca City, Okla. where he departed this life Feb. 25, 1935, at the age of 75 years.
In 1881 he was united in marriage to Louise Ada Thompson. One son was born to this union. She departed this life in 1887. He was united in marriage to Mattie Gray in 1896. To this union was born five sons and two daughters.
Two sons died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two sons and two daughters: Ray of Edna, Kansas, Roy and Lonnie of Grainola, Okla., Lemoyne of the home, Mrs. Otis Smith of Ponca City, Okla., and Mrs. Edwin Haines of Bartlesville, Okla.; also four brothers and two sisters, James and Preston of Bartlett, Kansas, Walter of Edna, Kansas, Clayton of Cushing, Okla., Mrs. Flora Burwell of Oswego, Kansas, Mrs. Ella Fox of Seminole, Okla. Also, seven grandchild, two great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and leaves a host of friends besides the near and more distant relatives, who sorrow in his departure.
There was a very large number of relatives and friends present at the funeral conducted in the Bartlett M.E. church by Rev. C. L. Ruhlen, pastor of the Methodist church in Altamont. Burial in the Lake Creek cemetery Wednesday afternoon.
