Emma was born in Scott Township. Wife of George Kuhlman Clatty. Mother of five. Daughter of William Alderson and Annie née Vero Alderson. Emma went to school in a one-room schoolhouse at the corner of Cedar Blvd/Washington Rd. in Mt. Lebanon. This schoolhouse was later partitioned into four rooms. When she finished school, she taught younger children, including her own brothers and sisters in the same schoolhouse. She always insisted she was not a "trained" teacher as we have today. Emma learned to drive one of the first cars in the area although she did not continue to drive later in life. She was known as "Non" or "Nonny" by her grandchildren and shared her knowledge of canning pickles, vegetables, jams, and jellies she had learned from her mother along with her sisters.

This information was compiled in 1983-1984 by her son William George Clatty's notes and memories.
