Stella Keever

Stella Jane Stiles Keever, 95, of Gresham, Ore., formerly of Dillsboro, died Thursday, July 17, 2003.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, at Jarrett Memorial Baptist Church in Dillsboro. The Rev. Frank Brooks officiated. Pallbearers were Perry Sutton, Warren Stillwell, Clifton Sutton, Ernest Bumgarner, Howard Myers and Travis Keever.

Daughter of the late William and Mary Ensley Stiles, she was born and raised in Jackson County, where she attended school and at age 16 married Thomas Keever. They raised their four children and operated a restaurant in Sylva, then moved to Klamath, Calif., where she ran a restaurant.

They moved to Santa Ana, Calif., where they managed apartments until his death in 1981. She moved to Bakersfield, Calif., then to Gresham, where she lived until her death.

She was affiliated with the Eastern Star and was a member of Jarrett Memorial Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Thomas Keever; three sons, James Keever, Harold Keever and Thomas William Keever; one daughter, Betty Jean Keever Kuedtke.; one sister, Mittie Neal.

Surviving are 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
