Mittie Styles Neal, 89, went to be with her Lord Jan. 7, 2007. Born Aug. 7, 1917, in Sylva, N.C., she was predeceased by her husband, William Henry Neal Sr. She is survived by two sons, William Henry Neal Jr. and Donald H. Neal of Chesapeake; three daughters, Nancy Poehlein of Portsmouth, Barbara Conti of Chesapeake and Carolyn Bordonaro of Bristow, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great- great-grandchildren. She was a member of Portsmouth Alliance Church for 60 years. She also was a former charter member and helped start Alexander Baptist Church in 1943. She was adored by all who knew her and she will be remembered for her peaceful, honest nature and her unfailingly kind spirit. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Portsmouth Alliance Church by the Rev. Palmer Zerbe and Dr. Carlton E. Smith. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The family wishes to give special recognition and thanks to Mittie Neal's granddaughter, Janice and husband Randy Lemke for their help and devotion to Granny.
