Jewell Burgess Babb, 101, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in Graham. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Pioneer Cemetery with Reverend Richard Segars of First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Jewell was born on April 10, 1910 in Palo Pinto County to the late Josh and Mary A. (Parsons) Burgess. She married Arthur Gordon Babb on May 9, 1936 in Graham. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1985. Jewell and her husband were owners of Babb Cafe and Sportsman PX in Graham. She was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1941.
Survivors include: nieces, Caroline Quinlivan of Bryson, Camilla Newman of Arlington, Brenda Truesdell of Graham, Patricia Northcut of McKinney, Mary Louise Ekstrand of California; nephews, Paul and Josh Burgess of Graham, Edward Lane of Norway, John Russell Caudill of Plano, Kyle Caudill of Dallas, Ronald Lynn Burgess of Mississippi and William Phillip Harris of Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Mamie Caudill, Ruby Wolfe, Bertha Martin, Nola Lane, Bertha Calwell, and Hazel Burkett, brothers, Josh Burgess, Jr., Ellis Burgess, and Joe Burgess, niece, Shirley Jean Wassom, and nephews, Joe Frank Harris and Billy Joe Martin.
The family would like to thank Graham Oaks, Graham Healthcare, Meals on Wheels, Oak Street Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, friends Barbara Woodward and Susie Garvey, and caregiver Donna Bundrick for all their support.
