Rufina's mother died and her father married again in Jan. 1844. Rufina was not with her father on the 1850 census. No further record was found of her until she married William Patterson 15 Dec. 1859. Her father was surety and a witness and Greenberry Patterson gave consent for his son. The marriage was registered in both Lincoln and Casey Counties in KY.

Rufina and William were living with William's parents, Greenberry Patterson and Permelia Perkins on the 1860 Casey Co. census. Permelia was the daughter of Joshua Perkins and Elizabeth Singleton. Elizabeth was a sister to Nancy, Harden's mother. Rufina may have lived her early years in Casey Co. with these relatives.

William and Rufina had one daughter, Mary E., born ca. 1861. William apparently died young. Rufina married Elijah Carmen in Casey Co. on 28 Oct. 1867.

Elijah was living in Douglas Co. MO with his wife Catherine on the 1860 census. The post office was Falling Spring. Catherine, born in IN according to the census, apparently died and Elijah came back to KY where he was born and married Rufina.

Rufina and Elijah were on the 1870 Chariton Co. MO census. Elijah's three daughters from his previous marriage were in the household as were the daughter, Mary E. Patterson age 9, of Rufina and William and Samantha J. age 1. daughter of Rufina and Elijah. They were in the Salisbury Township, Post Office, Keyetsville, MO. In the Prairie Township, same post office were Jordan M. Williams and wife Martha Jane. She was the daughter of William Ray, sister of Polly mother of Rufina.

On the 1880 census Rufina and Elijah were in Howard Co. MO. Elijah's daughters were all gone from home. Mary Patterson was still in the household. Samantha and three sons, John W. born Dec. 1871, George L. born July 1874 and Joseph E. born 1878, children of Elijah and Rufina were present.

Rufina was on the 1900 Howard Co. census as Head of the Household. The three sons were still in the household. on 10 March 1902 Elijah's three sons bought eighty acres for $300 from the heirs of Elijah Carmen The deed said it was understood that the grantors and grantees were the only heirs of Elijah. Rufina was not mentioned and it is assumed she was deceased. The grantors were J.R. Gilvin and his wife Sarah of Howard Co., Herbert Whitemarsh and his wife Mary A. of Boone Co. and Cal Brooks and his wife Smantha (daughter of Elijah and Rufina) of Randolph Co. Boone and Randolph Co. join Howard. Sarah and Mary A. would be the daughters of Elijah by his first wife. Mary E., the daughter of Rufina and William Patterson was not mentined and may not have been considered an heir or was deceased. Likewise Elijah's daughter Delila M. was not mentioned.

The date of death and burial place of Rufina were not established.
