He never married and died in Virginia City June 9th 1944 at age 66 and was buried in the family plot of the Masonic section of the Virginia City Cemetery]Married (1st) Veronica Harley in 1903 (1910 U.S. Census); married (2nd) Adeline Harris, his sister-in-law, 1931-1934 (she is listed as John's wife in the 1940 U.S. Census and that she was living in the same residence in 1935). Father of Donald, Harley and Laverne Harris. Laverne was born in 1915 in Nevada (1920 U.S. Census).

JOHN M. HARRIS FUNERAL TUESDAY
Carson, March 20 -- Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock for John M. Harris, who died at his home in Gardnerville Saturday evening. Burial will be in the Masonic section of the Virginia City cemetery.

Harris was born in Gold Hill, September 16, 1878, and had been living in Gardnerville since 1918. He was employed by the Minden Creamery and was well known in this area.

Surviving his widow, Mrs. Adeline Harris of Gardnerville; two sons, Donald Harris of Modesto, California and Harley Harris of Paso Robles, California; two daughters, Mrs. John Medeiros and Mrs. Oren Mart of Oakland. One brother, William Harris of San Francisco, also survives.
