Judson Adams Dies Suddenly This Morning
Prominent Retired Farmer Is Stricken Suddenly, Passes Away In Few Minutes; Funeral Saturday
Judson L. Adams, whose lifetime reached back eighty years in the history of Rensselaer community and one of the county's better known farmers and most highly respected citizens, died at his Barkley township home at six-thirty o'clock this morning.
The death of the venerable resident whose name was so closely associated with the life of the community and who served to link the early days with the present came with shocking suddenness.
He died of a heart seizure that came while he was standing in the living room of his home which he had shared with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Holmes and their family since the death of his wife in 1935. Mr. Adams had risen only a few minutes before the stroke came. He died within a few minutes.
Mr. Adam's health had not been good for two years or more, but his ill health had not convined him to his bed. His delince had increased slightly of late weeks. His visits to Rensselaer had been infrequent of late months in contast to former years due to his failing health.
Born In Jordan
Mr. Adams was born in Jordan township June 12, 1867. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry I. Adams. His mother's maiden name was Beale. He was born on a farm and throughout his lifetime he followed farming pursuits until recent years. His marriage to Miss Eva Waymire took place March 13, 1894. They made their home in Jordan township until 1906 when they moved to the farm in Barkley which he purchased and where he died.
The immediate survivors include a foster daughter, Mrs. Howard Holmes, and three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Uhle Iliff of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. William Iliff of Valparaiso; and the following half-brother and half-sisters; Heartsell Adams of Hammond, Mrs. Charles Horsewood of Albion, Indiana, Mrs. Kitty Saylor of Oregon, Mrs. Russell Slyter of Minnesota and Mrs. Conn Stephenson of Ohio. Mrs. Adams died June 18, 1935.
Mr. Adams was a member of the Methodist church and the Odd Fellows lodge of Rensselaer.
A kind and gracious man, friendly and sincere and devoted to all, a community builder and exemplary citizen in every way, Mr. Adams bore the mutual respect and admiration of everyone. He touched on the pioneer days of the county and during the many years of his active life he aided greatly in the development of community projects.
The funeral services will be conducted from W.J. Wright Chapel at 2 o'clock Saturday, with the Rev. Earl Moore officiating. Interment will be at Welsh cemetery in Jordan township. The remains are at the Chapel.
