Lady Born On Farm Near Here In 1869 Dies
Mars. Mary S. Iliff, whose parents were among Rensselaer community's earliest settlers, died in her Ashland, Oregon home last Wednesday night at the age of ninety years. She had been failing gradually as a result of age complications for several months.
Mrs. Iliff was born on a a farm near Rensselaer on June 9, 1869, a daughter of Henry I. Adams and Sophia (Beal) Adams. She was educated in Jasper county schools and taught school for a number of years. She was a highly talented musician and conducted music classes here for many years. Her marriage to John U. Iliff took place March 13, 1890. Mr. Iliff passed away in 1928. Mrs. Iliff continued to reside in this community until 1943, in which year she went to Ashland to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Clay Fredinburg. She was a member of the Baptist church and a loving Christian mother and a living testimony for her Lord.
Surviving are four children, Mrs. Mary Roth of Chicago, Mrs. Fredinburg, Mrs. Ethel Larson of Huntington Park, Calif., and Omer Iliff of Indianapolis; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Cora Iliff of Valparaiso, Mrs. Connie Stephenson of Toledo, O., Mrs. Anna Sluyter of Park Rapids, Minn., and Mrs. Keterah Saylor of Seattle, Wash., and a brother, Hartsell Adams, of Gary.
The remains are being brought to Jackson Funeral Chapel here. The funeral arrangements will be announced later. Interment will be in Welsh cemetery.
