Charles Henry Davis suffered a stroke Mon and died at his home in Atkinson Sat after an illness of 5 days. He was 73 years old. Mr. Davis had resided in Holt County for 63 years.
Funeral services were held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in this city at 9:30 Tue morning. The Rev A A Lehmen conducted the rites. Burial was in St Joseph’s Cem.
Pallbearers were six nephews, Glen Davis of Alliance, Vernon Morrisson of Ainsworth, Lawrence Jonas of O’Neill and Leonard Davis and Ed Slaymaker and Ray Cearns all of Atkinson.
Charles Henry Davis, son of Miner and Clarissa Spicer Davis, was born near Mazeppa in Wabasha County, Minn., on May 11,1873, and died at his home in Atkinson, April 26,1947, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 15 days.
When he was 11 years old he came to Holt County with his parents and has resided here for 63 years. Most of his life he was a blacksmith and his hobby was playing old time violin music and making violins. During WWII he worked for nearly two years in the Lockheed Aircraft plant at Burbank, Cal, making parts for P-38 airplanes.
In Feb he underwent a major operation from which he recovered and seemed to be enjoying good health again, until he suffered a stroke Mon.
On Oct 21,1896 he was united in marriage to Pauline Mlinar who survives him. In Oct 1946, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Pauline, and three daughters, Mrs. Cora Weichman of Atkinson, Mrs. Clare Walsh of Los Angeles, Cal, and Mrs. Florence Acherman of Casper, Wyo., all of whom were here for the funeral, and 9 grandchildren.
He is also survived by 3 sisters, Mrs. Nettie Hovey of Miami, Florida, Mrs. Floy Bailey of Long Beach, Cal, and Mrs. Ethel Morrisson of Bassett; and 2 brothers, Clyde Davis and Jess Davis, both of Atkinson. Many nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.
Relatives and friends who came from a distance to attend the funeral are Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Morrison and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Butler of Bassett; Mrs. Anna Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Wassenberer of Crawford; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Davis of Alliance; Mrs. K C Larson of Hyannis; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Reiser, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Reiser and Dan Reiser, all of Spencer; and Mr. and Mrs. Wm Harvey, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Spicer and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Spicer all of Canistota, SD. Mr. and Mrs. L E Jonas, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jonas, of O’Neill; Mr. and Mrs. W F Jonas of Burwell; Melvin Jonas of Ord; Lester Jonas of North Platte; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Morrisson and Lloyd Morrisson of Ainsworth; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sparks of Newport; Mrs. Letha White and Mrs. Julie Kernan of Long Pine, Walter Counts and daughter, Elaine of Butte.
