Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon in the Methodist Church in Atkinson for Clyde Davis, 71, who died at his home here Wednesday morning, Dec 23, after a long illness.
Mr Davis was a veteran barber in Atkinson and retired last year because of ill health after practicing his profession for 58 years. He was a barber in Atkinson for 30 years, being associated with CJ Brooke, the late Bert Adams and Russell Everett. The last several years he was associated with his son Howard.
He began his career as a barber under the direction of his brother-in-law, the late Frank Bailey, in Stuart, when he was only 12 years old. Before coming to Atkinson he barbered in many places including Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota, and many towns in Nebraska.
Clyde Davis was born in Atkinson on July 1,1888, the son of the late Miner and Clarissa Davis.
On Nov 16,1910 he was united in marriage to Phebie Irene Smith at the home of her parents in Newport. To this union were born 7 children.
After their marriage they lived in the community of Newport for 10 years. In the fall of 1929 they moved to Atkinson.
He is survived by his wife, 3 daughters, Mrs Earl (Gladys) Sparks of Grand Island, Mrs Wm F (Shirley) Dvorak of Sun Valley, Cal; and Mrs Kenneth (Arlene) Bridge of Orchard; two sons, Leonard of ONeill and Howard of Atkinson, and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard, and a daughter, Beulah, who died in infantry.

Clyde Leonard Davis was born in Atkinson, July 1,1888 and died at his home Dec 23,1959 at the age of 71 years 5 months and 22 days. He was the son of Minar and Clarissa Davis.
He was united in marriage to Phebie Irene Smith at Newport Nov 16,1910. To this union 7 children were born.
Mr Davis was a veteran barber of 58 years having started the profession at the early age of 12 years under the supervision of a brother in law Frank Bailey.
He moved his family to Atkinson in the fall of 1928, where he became associated in barbering with the late Bert Adams, and resided here since that time. Pallbearers were all barbers with whom he had been associated with but one, who was a close friend. Three of them had been apprentices under his direction before completing their training.
He is survived by his wife, 3 daughters, Mrs Earl (Gladyce) Sparks of Grand Island, Mrs William F (Shirley) Dvorak of Sun Valley, Cal, Mrs Kenneth (Arlene) Bridges of Royal, 2 sons, Leonard of ONeill, Howard of Atkinson, 10 grandchildren, 3 sisters Nettie Hovey of Miami, Flor, Floy Bailey of Long Beach, Calif, Ethel Morrison of Ainsworth, brother Jess of Merriman. He was preceded in death by daughter Beulah, son Richard, parents, 2 brothers.
Pallbearers were Don Mills, C J Brooke, Claude Humphrey, Oscar Fullerton of Neligh, Grant Peacock of ONeill, Harold Pfiestei of Long Pine.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cem.
