He married Maria Thetford and they were the parents of ten known children: David Edward, William Orson, George Mason, Fannie Maria, Louisa Elizabeth, Ernest Thetford, Albert John, Emily Catherine, Rose and Sarah Amelia.

He died at the age of 82 in Alpine, Utah.
