Alphonso Simmons born near Murfreesboro, Tennessee in 1887 and was the 3rd of 10 children of Franklin Pierce Simmons and Ardella McPeak.

His family had joined the LDS Church in 1885. In 1888 the family moved to Charleston, Utah

In 1897 his father died of typhoid fever leaving his mother Della with 10 children to raise alone. With the help of the church and concerned neighbors they survived. His mother remarried a widower John Phillip Jordan with children and he was raised with this new merged family.

In 1910 Alphonso was herding sheep in Wasatch County, Utah. He then herded in Duschesne county before 1917.

He was a Flock Master working for Albert Smith in Fruitland, Utah in 1917

He listed for the draft in WWI but had a physical disability preventing him from serving actively.

In 1920 Alphonso was herding sheep on a ranch in the Dragon district of Uintah County, Utah

He never married.

This lifestyle was much to his liking and he followed it all his life.

Later he moved to and died on Dec 25, 1944 in the Arden Sanitarium in Salt Lake City, Utah.
