1914 - 2013
Naomi Cottam Carr died of natural causes January 3, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Mary Ward, in Heber City, Utah. She was born to Charles Smith and Mary Gertrude Judd Cottam, December 12, 1914, in St. George, Utah. The eleventh of twelve children, she was raised in a loving home.
She was valedictorian at Dixie Junior High School and Dixie Junior College before attending Brigham Young University, where she met William Cecil Carr. They married June 7, 1935, in the St. George Temple. They raised six children while living in California, Utah, Hawaii, Wyoming and New Zealand.
Naomi was a teacher for 33 years in St. George, Provo, Hawaii, New Zealand, American Fork, and Wyoming. Upon retirement, she, with her husband, served a temple mission in New Zealand. Naomi has been actively engaged in serving in the Young Women, Relief Society, Primary, and Sunday School organizations as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. In recent years, she especially enjoyed her service in the Provo Temple. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She loved designing and sewing clothing, painting, writing, gardening, and flower arranging.
She is survived by her six children: William Charles (Carole) Carr, Russell Owen (Pat) Carr, Mary Eleanor (Larry) Ward, Ruth Ann (Merrill) Johnson, Rebecca (Ron) Lewis, and Deborah (Duane) Bohman; 42 grandchildren, 121 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, one daughter-in-law, Lynn Harrison Carr, one grandchild, Nathan Russell Carr and one great-grandchild, Jenna Carr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Lakeside 7th Ward Chapel, 2225 West 620 North, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Sunday evening from 6 until 8 and at the church Monday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Temple Patron Assistance Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
