He was drafted into World War II in 1943 where he served on the front lines in the European Theater, with 36th Texas division, fighting in Italy, France, Germany and Austria. He was awarded the Silver Star and two purple hearts. He married Cloe Truman on the 30 January 1946 in the Logan Temple and they began their new chapter in Strevell, Idaho breaking up sagebrush for dry farming, raising kids, turkeys and a few cattle. They moved to Bothwell in 1954 and continued raising children, farming, some livestock and turkeys. He was briefly employed at Thiokol as a welder and then worked for the Federal Land Bank Association where he was Loan Officer, land appraiser and became manager. He loved working with the producers and visiting with them.
He truly enjoyed visiting. He could get a wrong phone number and talk 20 minutes. He didn't like to work alone. He preferred a crew to get a task done. A dreaded phase he used, "I have a 5 minute job." These jobs were never 5 minutes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling with his wife across the county, sports and the phone.
He was very active in the LDS church where he was Branch President, Bishop. He and Cloe served a mission to the Florida Jacksonville Mission. They also were temple officiators for 14 years in the Logan Temple.
He is survived by his loving, supportive wife, Cloe, Kent (Kathy), Hal (Brooke), Dale, Ted (Ida) Julia, Helen Whiting (Roy), Don (Kim) and Marchelle Nielson (Justin). 27 Grandchildren, 45 Great Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.
