Philip was the second Barron generation in Ireland after the family fled France. He and his family were Irish Catholic under British rule and were denied education in Ireland.

He and Bridget (Murphy) were married in New Ross, Wexford, Ireland and had at least 8 children.

The family left Ireland in 1854 and came to New York. Their baby died on the trip and was buried "at sea". Family stories on Philip's death vary.

Bridget relocated with her son James, Hannah, Jane, Nicholas, and Sylvester to the Irish community in Weller, Iowa. They show on the 1870 census.
