SKOWHEGAN - David W. Thompson, 79, of Skowhegan passed away on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at his home in Skowhegan. He was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Burlington, the son of the late Harry Soucie and Myrtle (Sibley) Soucie, and his adoptive parents, who raised him, Willard Thompson and Myra (Soucie) Thompson.
He married Marion (Withee) Thompson on June 17, 1953, in Skowhegan, and they were together for 52 years. She passed away on Feb. 9, 2006.
He graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1951 as class president. While in high school, he was co-captain of Skowhegan's first un-tied undefeated football team in 1950. He is in the Skowhegan Football Hall of Fame. He later graduated from the University of South Florida in 1977 with a degree in education. David served in the Air Force. He was stationed in Hawaii for four years, California, Florida, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Brunswick Naval Air Station during his service of 22 years, retiring with the rank of master sergeant. He then taught at Rumford High School Vocational Region 9 in the metal trades for 20 years, retiring in 1996.
He was survived by his brother, Garry, and wife Joyce; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife, and siblings.
Burial will take place at a later date at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. (Morning Sentinel 1/24/2012)
