John DeVane, Jr. married Ann Julian Davis(30 June 1768 - ). She was a widow of a Mr. Evans and a sister of Francis Davis who married Tabitha DeVane daughter of John DeVane, Sr. of New Hanover Co., NC.

John, Jr. & AnnJulian were married 25 Oct 1785. (information was stated in Pension application of Ann Julan Devane #W-3961-when ordering the Military Records from National Archives, order the entire file. There is information listed on separate sheets of papers.)


They had 7 children:

(1.)John DeVane, III moved family to Western NC

(2.) Ann Jane DeVane (m. Ross Cogdell )New Hanover Co., NC Deed Bk S pg.600 and Bladen Co., NC Deed Bk 37 pg 457.

(3.)Benjamin Franklin DeVane, Sr (1794-1878)m. Mary J. Rogers (War of 1812) moved to Fla. (There is a Benj Devane listed as head of family in 1830 Lowndes Co., GA census so he may have lived there first. Daughters of 1812 Chapter in FL named in his honor.)

(4.) William DeVane (1786-1870)(War of 1812) moved his family to GA, Troy, AL., then to Florida and help to settle Springhead which is Plant City, FL. William was the father of at least 5 sons. He married Olive Holloway.

(5.) Francis DeVane (c1797- 1868) War of 1812 m. Frances Giddens moved to Berrien Co., GA. They had several children, some of which was Priscilla Ann Devane who married Guilford G. Register in 1832 in Berrien Co., GA; Benjamin Mitchell DeVane(1835-1912 GA) m. Narcissa Cornelia Forehand(1839-1910 GA).

(6.) Rebecca DeVane (m. Richard Parrish & Taylor Holloway)

(7.) Nancy Ann DeVane (m. John Canty DeVane s/o James & 2nd wife, Margaret Canty ) . They were 1st cousins.


John DeVane, Jr. died intestate in June 1802, leaving land in New Hanover & Bladen Co., NC. See New Hanover Co., NC records 10 Sep 1808 Lands & Dowers Records Bk A pg 34-5. Bladen Co., NC records 13 Oct 1809 (Bladen County land partitioned among the children).

From Bladen Co. Deed Bk 37 pg 457: " This indenture made the 24th day of February 1818 between William Devane, John Devane, Benjamin Devane, Ross Cogdell and Ann Jane Cogdell his wife being heirs of the late John Devane, Jr. dec'd of the one part and W. H. Baetty of Bladen Co., NC of the other part".
