My Dad:

Alton "Bo" Beheler was born Sept. 7, 1916 in Henrietta, North Carolina. He died Sept. 26, 1975, in the Wallace Thomson Hospital, Union, South Carolina, from a Brain Tumor. On April 2, 1938 he married Verona Lawson. He was a son of Claude and Nellie Burnett Beheler.

His Mom and Dad separated while he was young, so he quit school after the seventh grade to go to work in the cotton mill. He worked in the weave room as a fixer. They had eight children, but Alton Earl and Ralph died as babies. When Mom had to go on a leave before I was born, Daddy told her not to go back to work, she had enough work at home, with children, cooking and house work. I can remember Daddy being sick but he'd go to work any way. Daddy had a heart attack on January 19, 1973 that almost killed him. He had to go on disablity. On June 30, 1975 he had to be operated on for a malignant brain tumor. They couldn't get it all. He died September 26, 1975, he was 59 years and 19 days old. He was a member of the Calvary Free Will Church. He loved God, so we know God took all the pain away and made him well. Mom went to join him August 28, 2002.

Our girls was to young to remember him but we kept his memory alive for them. He didn't want to be called grandpa, so the grandchildren called him "Daddy Bo." He didn't have drivers license, but when he saved a little money, he and his friend Leroy would get on a bus or train and just ride seeing the country, for the weekend. He and his friend Doc would go fishing, bring home a big tub of fish. The first time I went fishing was with Daddy. I had never saw an eel, so when I caught one I thought it was a snake and threw pole and all in the pond. He's loved and miss by all that knew him. Rest in peace Daddy.

Gods Garden

God looked around his garden
and saw an empty place.
He then looked down on earth,
and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
and lifted you to rest.
Gods garden must be a beautiful place,
He only takes the best.

He knew that you would never
get well on earth again.
He saw the road getting rough
and the hills hard to climb,
So he closed your weary eyes
and whispered "Peace Be Thine".

It broke our hearts to lose you,
but you're not going alone.
for part of us went with you
the day God called you home.

If tears could build a stairway
and heartaches could make a lane,
we'd walk a path to Heaven
and bring you home again.
